Our Story
18 years ago, Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc., recognized that there were many students graduating from high school who lacked supplemental monies to attend college. The belief that all who want to excel in learning should have an opportunity to do so was paramount amongst them. Hence, the John Roberson Golf Tournament was conceived, and they began hosting an annual golf tournament to raise scholarship money for students who needed additional educational funds to attend a two-year or four-year college.
The tournament was named for John Lawlor Roberson a local resident who grew up in Stone Harbor, NJ, was an educator, and a dedicated member of CCWI. He served for almost 20 years as the organization's scholarship committee chairperson.
John believed that education made one a better person in all aspects of life.
He was a huge proponent of higher education.
Therefore, the name of the tournament is fittingly in his honor and will remain,
"A True Dedication To Continuing Educational Opportunities
For Cape May County Students"!
